Brief Addiction Monitor (BAM)
A 30-day, categorical-response assessment of substance use, relapse risk factors, and recovery-supportive behaviors.
Clinical use: BAM supports measurement-based care and progress monitoring. It is not a stand-alone diagnostic or emergency assessment.
BAM results
Report the three domain scores separately; BAM does not produce a validated overall total.
Risk score
0 / 24
Higher score = more relapse/worsening-risk factors.
Protective score
0 / 24
Higher score = more recovery-supportive factors.
Use score
0 / 12
Higher score = greater reported alcohol/drug use.
Item 17 (recovery-goal satisfaction): —. This item is not included in the Risk, Protective, or Use composite scores.
Scoring shown here is for the categorical 30-day BAM: Risk = 1 + 2 + 3 + 8 + 11 + 15; Protective = 9 + 10 + 12 + 13 + 14 + 16; Use = 4 + 5 + 6. Item 7 and item 17 are not part of the composite calculations.
