The Montgomery-Åsberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS) is a clinician-rated, 10-item scale used to measure the severity of depressive episodes and to track change over time, especially in response to treatment. It was introduced in 1979 by Stuart Montgomery and Marie Åsberg to be more sensitive to symptom change than older scales such as the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale.
