The Shapiro Criteria (also called the Shapiro decision rule) is a clinical prediction rule developed to help clinicians decide when blood cultures are warranted in adults with suspected infection. It estimates the risk of true bacteremia and supports antimicrobial stewardship by reducing low-yield cultures.
