Finnish Diabetes Risk Score (FINDRISC) Calculator

What is the FINDRISC Score?

The Finnish Diabetes Risk Score (FINDRISC) is a simple, evidence-based questionnaire used to assess an individual’s risk of developing type 2 diabetes within the next 10 years. Developed by researchers in Finland, this tool evaluates several key risk factors including age, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, physical activity, diet, medication history, blood glucose history, and family history of diabetes.

The FINDRISC questionnaire assigns points to each risk factor, with higher scores indicating greater diabetes risk. Based on the total score, individuals are categorized into different risk levels ranging from low to very high. This helps identify people who might benefit from lifestyle interventions to prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes.

The tool is particularly valuable because it doesn’t require blood tests and can be easily administered in various settings, making it accessible for widespread diabetes risk screening.
