About the G8 Assessment

What is the G8 Tool?

The G8 is a simple, rapid screening questionnaire used in geriatric medicine to identify older patients (typically 70+) who are at risk for frailty and might benefit from a comprehensive geriatric assessment.

Scoring Interpretation

  • Score > 14: Normal screening result. Patient is likely fit or robust.
  • Score ≤ 14: Abnormal screening result. Indicates high likelihood of frailty. Refer for Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA).

Clinical Applications

  • Identifying frailty in older adults
  • Onco-geriatrics (predicting chemotherapy tolerance)
  • Pre-operative assessment
  • Allocation of geriatric resources

Key Features

  • Quick to administer (about 5 minutes)
  • High sensitivity for detecting frailty
  • Validated in multiple clinical settings
  • Prognostic value for treatment outcomes
