About the CRASH Score

The Chemotherapy Risk Assessment Scale for High-Age Patients (CRASH) score is a validated tool to predict the risk of severe chemotherapy toxicity in older adults (age ≥70).

Score Components

The CRASH score consists of two separate risk scores:

  • Toxicity Risk Score: Predicts risk of severe (grade 4) non-hematological toxicity
  • Hematological Risk Score: Predicts risk of severe (grade 4) hematological toxicity

Clinical Utility

The CRASH score helps clinicians:

  • Identify older patients at high risk for chemotherapy toxicity
  • Make informed decisions about chemotherapy dosing and regimen selection
  • Implement appropriate supportive care measures
  • Improve patient counseling about treatment risks and benefits
